Editing Services
Copy Editing
For copy editing, I like to go through the entire manuscript first before starting to make changes. Then I will do an in-depth line-by-line edit that will cover spelling, punctuation, grammar, getting rid of unnecessary words to help with flow, correct sentence structure, and tone. I use Word so you can either accept or reject those changes and will explain edits in comment boxes. You are in full control of your story and I just want to assist you with the story, not change it!
Developmental Editing
What I will do by developmental editing, is help you fill in any holes or tie up any loose ends that you may have with the entire writing project. I won't rewrite your manuscript for you, but I will provide clear instructions on what changes might benefit the overall story and help you create a stronger book. I'll give you a broad overview of the structure, narrative, character development, pacing, and voice as well as anything else I think needs extra attention from you.
Manuscript Evaluation
Sometimes all you need is someone to go through the entire manuscript and take notes on the details such as theme, title, premise, genre, voice, style, format, plot, tense, dialogue, character development, setting and overall the good, the bad and the best parts of the novel. What I will do is then provide you with a 7-10 page written evaluation with all of the suggested changes that could help strengthen your manuscript. You, of course, have the choice of considering the changes and asking me questions about any of them. This is great for catching any plot holes before you get to the developmental edit or copy edit stage.
Proofreading
Sometimes we all just need that last set of eyes on our manuscript to make sure it's in tip-top shape before being sent to a literary agent or being published. With this service, I will do the final editorial step to catch any of those last-minute mistakes such as spelling errors, punctuation mishaps, and grammar faux pas. This step should only be done after a professional copy edit and all formatting is complete.
